History

The Talisman Charitable Trust is an unincorporated trust constituted under a Trust Deed dated 4th August 1936, and a scheme made by the Charity Commissioner dated 22nd August 2000. The Trust is a Registered Charity no. 207173.

The Trust was established by an initial gift from Baron Frederic Allred d’Erlanger in 1936. The Trust does not actively fundraise, and seeks to continue its work through the careful stewardship of its existing resources.

Objectives and Activities

We assist individuals of small means who the trustees consider to be deserving and may be described as “going short”. From time to time, we also assist other charities with similar objectives to our own.

In general, the relief of poverty includes grants for education, health, housing, disablement or disability.

Guidance as to the application of grants for relief of ‘poverty’ can be found from the Charity Commission of England and Wales, and the trustees pay careful heed to the commissioners’ modern definition of ‘poor’.
